Plans by SAS and Air France-KLM to merge their loyalty schemes will require approvals from creditors and anti-competition rulings from the European Commission..

The SAS Eurobonus loyalty program is likely to be subsumed into Air France-KLM’s Flying Blue programme, according to unconfirmed reports.

If successful, Air France-KLM’s control of SAS will make it Europe’s second-largest airline group after Ryanair and ahead of the Lufthansa group, opening new opportunities for transatlantic travel.

It seems that the Eurobonus program will be integrated into Flying Blue, but there are still hurdles to overcome. Approvals and ownership requirements need to be met before moving forward with the merger. If all goes well, the merger might take place in 2024. The process involves withdrawing from the Star Alliance, joining SkyTeam, and merging the two frequent flyer programs.
