Dublin mayor names bridge for victims of Bloody Sunday 1920

Dublin’s Lord Mayor Daithi de Róiste has named a bridge for the victims of Bloody Sunday on the 103rd anniversary of the mass murder of spectators at a football match in Croke Park by british forces on November 20 1920.

The victims were: 

  • Jane Boyle aged 28 from Portobello, due to be married the following Friday and buried in her wedding dress.
  • James Burke aged 44 from Windy Arbour. 
  • Daniel Carroll aged 30, form Tipperary and living in Drumcondra.
  • Michael Feery aged 30, from Gardiner Place, ironically an ex British soldier.
  • Michael Hogan, aged 24, champion of the football field, the man after whom the Hogan stand is named. 
  • Tom Hogan ,aged 19 from Limerick 
  • James Matthews, aged 48 from North Cumberland Street
  • Patrick O’Dowd, aged 57 from Lower Buckingham Street
  • Thomas Ryan, aged 27 from Wexford
  • James Teehan ,aged 26 from Tipperary
  • Joe Traynor, aged 20 from Inchicore
  • Perry Robinson, aged 11, from Little Britain Street
  • Billy Scott aged 14 from Fitzroy Avenue
  • And Jerome O’Leary aged 10, placed on a wall by his father to watch the match
