Amtrak has unveiled a transformed entrance at New York Penn Station, the busiest transportation facility in the western hemisphere.
The station’s busiest entrance on 7th Avenue and 32nd Street has been widened by 50pc, a new glass canopy has been installed, and the escalators have been replaced with new ones connecting passengers with the mezzanine level. Additionally, a new ADA-compliant lift has been installed to make the entrance fully accessible and assist those with heavy luggage.
Amtrak is also working on widening the pavements along the west side of 7th Avenue to improve safety and navigation. This follows the unveiling of a refurbished waiting area in 2020, featuring new amenities such as an information desk, seats with power sockets and USB ports, and new ceiling LED lighting. Amtrak CEO Stephen Gardner said the modern entrance will enhance the customer experience for the 600,000 daily visitors to the station.
