The government has decided to fast track the construction of the Adare bypass to ensure its completion in time for the Ryder Cup in 2027.
A sum of €150m will be invested by the State to build the 7km bypass, which aims to alleviate traffic congestion in Adare town.
The bypass will address a regional bottleneck on the national road network and help improve the flow of traffic.
The Adare bypass is part of the larger Limerick to Foynes Project, which involves constructing a 33km road connecting Limerick to the port of Foynes. Critics say the completion of the bypass will land the Adare traffic problem straight into Newcastle West.
Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan has described this as a significant infrastructure project that holds strategic importance for both Limerick and the national road network. The completion of the bypass is expected to bring about several benefits for Adare.
The advantages expected from the bypass include reduced congestion, less noise pollution, improved air quality, easier access in and out of the town, enhanced safety measures, and improvements to green areas and shared spaces, making Adare a more attractive place to live and work.
