The use of Merrion Square for future Dublin City marathons is being reconsidered by Dublin City Council and the organisers of the Dublin Marathon.

Due to concerns raised by the National Transport Authority about road closures and public transportation, the event is likely to be moved from Merrion Square North.

In a joint statement, Dublin City Council and the organisers said they are exploring alternative options within the city centre to showcase the city and provide the best experience for participants. Discussions for future arrangements are underway, with an announcement anticipated in Quarter 1 of 2024.
