THESE are the speakers at today’s COP 28 sustainable aviation event in Dubai

The aviation industry will host a Global Sustainable Aviation Forum as a side event during the COP 28 summit in Dubai on today, Wednesday December 6,.

The industry aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 through efficiency measures, energy transition, and innovation, with government support.

The Forum will showcase innovations and developments in aviation climate action, focusing on future technologies, operational improvements, energy transition, and sustainable aviation fuel. The speakers:

  • Stephane Albert: Associate Director and Sustainable Aviation Strategy, Pratt & Whitney. In charge of sustainability strategies at Pratt & Whitney, representing ICAO and overseeing government relations for Europe and the Middle East.
  • Sheikh Aimen: Successfully shaping Oman Airports to contribute to the nation’s vision of a safe, modern, and profitable aviation sector. Involved in various leadership roles within multinational organisations.
  • Maryam Al Balooshi – State Lead Negotiator for Aviation Climate Change, United Arab Emirates, involved in negotiations and initiatives to address aviation’s climate impact.
Jane Boyle of Abu Dhabi Airports
  • Jane Boyle – Head of Sustainability, Abu Dhabi Airports: Jane Boyle has over 20 years of experience in sustainability in the built environment. As the Head of Sustainability for Abu Dhabi Airports, she develops holistic sustainability strategies and has previously worked for Dubai Airports and international consultancies.
  • Conrad Clifford: Deputy Director General, IATA. Leading IATA’s global advocacy programs and campaigns for member airlines, with extensive experience in senior executive positions in various international carriers.
  • Sven Deckers – Director of Strategic Planning, Dubai Airports: With 20 years of leadership experience in the aviation industry, Sven Deckers is responsible for corporate and sustainability strategy at Dubai Airports. He has held various positions within airlines, alliance management, and airport operations.
  • Faustine de la Salle: Executive Director, Mission Possible Partnership. Leading an alliance focused on decarbonising high-emitting industries, with expertise in energy and industry transitions, and a strong advocate for achieving net-zero systems globally.
  • Haldane Dodd – Executive Director at Air Transport Action Group, working towards reducing the aviation industry’s climate change impact through common goals and partnerships.
  • Luke Ervine: Head of Sustainability, Virgin Atlantic. Responsible for developing and implementing sustainability and decarbonisation strategies for the airline, with a focus on achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
  • Matt Gorman – Director of Carbon Strategy at Heathrow Airport, leading the development of sustainable growth plans and industry-wide sustainability goals for Heathrow and the aviation sector.
  • Patrick Gruber – Chief Executive Officer, Gevo: Dr. Gruber has dedicated over 30 years to developing renewable biobased technologies, such as sustainable fuels, plastics, and advanced alcohols. He currently leads Gevo’s commercialisation of low-carbon Isobutanol and renewable fuels.
  • Marc Hamy: Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Airbus. A senior executive with a background in aviation, transport, economy, and politics, holding key positions in different organisations and contributing to Airbus’ corporate affairs.
  • Jen Houghton – Head of Environmental Strategy for the Civil Aerospace division at Rolls-Royce, ensuring the company’s net-zero commitments and supporting customers with their energy transition needs. 
  • Aimen Al Hosni: Chief Executive Officer, Oman Airports. Leading the development of Oman’s aviation sector, focusing on safety, profitability, and customer-centricity, while investing in Omani talent and achieving high Omanisation rates.

  • Robert Miller: Professor of Aerothermal Technology and Director of the Whittle Laboratory at the University of Cambridge. Leading research on aerodynamics and zero-emission aviation technologies, contributing to evidence-based tools for net-zero aviation.
  • Bertrand Millot – Chief Sustainability Officer, CDPQ: Bertrand Millot leads the Stewardship Investing team at CDPQ, focusing on integrating ESG factors into all activities and deploying the climate strategy while managing associated risks.
  • Francis Mwangi – Senior Planning Officer / CAEP Vice Chairperson, Kenya Civil Aviation Authority: As an environmental expert and senior planning officer at KCAA, Francis Mwangi has actively participated in developing Kenya’s Aviation Action Plan on CO2 reduction and has extensive knowledge in sustainable aviation fuel deployment.
  • Olivier Jankovec – Director General, Airports Council International Europe: Olivier Jankovec has over 30 years of experience in governmental and lobbying roles in the aviation industry. As the Director General of ACI EUROPE, he has championed the industry’s role in climate action.
  • Fredrik Jaresved – Director of Strategy and Innovation, Swedavia: Fredrik Jaresved oversees strategic initiatives and innovation at Swedavia, which operates Sweden’s state-owned airports. Swedavia became the first airport operator worldwide to achieve zero CO2 emissions from their own operations in 2020.
  • Mounir Kuzbari – Co-Founder and Director at SAF One, focusing on sustainable aviation fuel development and financing solutions to promote decarbonisation within the aviation industry.
  • Amal Osman – Managing Director Middle East and North-Africa, Collins Aerospace: Amal Osman is responsible for key stakeholder engagement and business development opportunities in the Middle East and Africa region. She has significant experience in aerospace operations, supply chain management, and project management.
  • Teresa Parejo – Head of Sustainability at Iberia Airlines, working on sustainability initiatives and environmental compliance within the airline industry.
