Ski resorts sparkle into action with 20cm-60cm of fresh snowfall

The main ski season in France is starting this weekend with some of the best early snowfall in recent years, matching the early starts to the 2012-13, 2017-18 and 2021-22 seasons.

Ski resorts have witnessed fresh snowfall of 20-60cm in the past week, providing excellent early season conditions, especially at higher altitudes.

Tignes on November 18 and Val Thorens on November 25 were the first ski resorts to open and several more resorts opened at the end of last month. Tignes reports 35 out of 79 Lifts open and 150 of 300 km of pistes open. Val Thorens reports 29 out of 156 Lifts open. 105 of 600 km of pistes open.

This weekend, more than 20 ski resorts are scheduled to open, with some providing “preview weekends” ahead of their expected opening dates, all thanks to the recent snowfall.

Zell am See was the first major resort to open in Austria and reports 36 of 46 lifts open and 47 of 76 slopes open. Obergurgl-Hochgurgl has 20 of 25 lifts and 33 of 50 pistes open.
