Private landowners, led by businessman Ulick McEvaddy, have submitted a high-level vision document to Fingal county planners for a third terminal at Dublin Airport on a strategic 261-acre site they own west of the airport.
The land is currently on the market, but the group is said to be close to finalizing a decision to apply for planning permission in early 2024. If this decision is confirmed, the site would be taken off the market.
The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) is also expected to submit a planning application by the end of this month as part of their efforts to increase the airport’s capacity to 40m passengers.
The presentation to planners included illustrations and maps of a third terminal with a wave-like roof which they say takes inspiration from airports in Beijing, Qatar, and the Philippines. It also outlined plans for a new road linking the western terminal to the M2 motorway and an underground rail link between airport terminals. The landowners are considering including storage facilities for sustainable aviation fuels on the western campus.
