The Blue Lagoon, a signature attraction geothermal spa in Iceland will remain closed until December 27, 2023, subject to reassessment as lava continues to flow through Reykjanes peninsula.

The eruption occurred in Sundhnúkagígar, but there is no immediate threat to people or Blue Lagoon infrastructure.

A reduction in volcanic intensity suggests potential stabilisation; no impact on flights or traffic.

Blue Lagoon had just reopened after being closed for a month due to earthquakes on the Reykjanes peninsula.

Along with the Blue Lagoon, the restaurant Lava and Lón’s spa had reopened, hotels Silica and Retreat, as well as the restaurant Moss, have remained closed throughout the recent earthquakes.
