Amsterdam Schiphol Airport has revisited its proposed cap on flights and announced the possibility of accommodating 483,000 aircraft movements in 2024, given that peak times are relieved.
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines welcomed the announcement, stating it would support their recovery post-pandemic, and provide stability and predictability for customers and employees.
The airport plans to provide capacity for 293,000 flights during the summer season of 2024, which is higher than the previously announced 280,000 flights.
This decision comes after the Netherlands’ Ministry of Infrastructure suspended a scheme to cut flight movements, forcing the airport to reestablish capacity for the new summer season.
The airport asserts that a limited reduction is necessary during peak times to maintain safe operations, which airlines have agreed to assist in.
The Independent slot coordinator will now discuss with airlines on ways to reduce flight numbers during peak hours, stating that compliance with these agreements is crucial for safe and pleasant journeys at the Schiphol airport.
