Ireland’s first national air disaster occurred on January 10, 1952, when the Saint Kevin airship got caught in a severe storm over North Wales. Ironically this happened shortly after Aer Lingus was declared the world’s safest airline, having avoided any incidents in its 16 year history.
Now, more than six decades later, ‘Shamrock 165’ examines this disaster in a three-volume series, exploring what led to the tragic incident and the factors that caused it, in a project known as ‘The Saint Kevin Project’.
Author Gavin Walsh launched Volume 3 in a private event attended by victims’ families and accident witnesses; the series, informed by over 10,000 interviews and 12,000 documents sourced across 13 years, exposes the flawed investigation into the accident..
