A record 21,525 Irish young people were granted Australian working holiday visas from July 2022 to July 2023.
This figure more than doubled from the previous year’s total of 10,491 visas. During the pandemic years 2021-21, 8,878 visas were granted.
Figures were lower a decade ago: 4,074 visas in 2014.
In 2007 8,400 visas were approved, 12,847 in 2008 and 6,945 in 2009.
Over the past five years, there has been a steady increase in emigration from Ireland, highlighted by 11,077 visas issued between mid-2018 and mid-2019.
