Westmeath abú: Irish American Joanna Geraghty to become new CEO of Jetblue on February 11

Third generation Westmeath woman Joanna Geraghty is set to become JetBlue’s CEO, succeeding Robin Hayes, who is stepping down due to health reasons.

Geraghty has a long tenure with JetBlue, previously serving as president and COO, and before that had a career in law, including being a partner at a law firm.

Geraghty takes charge during a critical time for JetBlue, as it navigates the proposed acquisition of Spirit Airlines and recovers from pandemic losses, with her official leadership beginning on February 12.

Joanna joined JetBlue in 2005, first as the airline’s vice president and associate general counsel and director of Litigation and Regulatory Affairs, and the executive vice president chief people officer from 2010 to 2014.

Previously, she served as a partner at law firm Holland & Knight. Joanna received her B.A. from the College of the Holy Cross, New York in 1994, and went on to earn a master’s degree in international relations from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs in 1997 and a J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law in the same year.

Joanna is an active member on the board of the Irish non-profit organisation Concern Worldwide US. he paternal grandfather came from not far from the home of Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary.
