Cathay Pacific is reducing its schedules by an average of 12 flights per day until the end of February to avoid major flight cancellations during the peak Chinese Lunar New Year period. This decision is due to a significant pilot shortage.
The airline will mainly cancel flights on routes with multiple daily services and transfer booked passengers onto same-day flights.
Cathay Pacific has been facing difficulties in recruiting pilots, especially senior pilots, after cutting its workforce during the COVID-19 pandemic. The airline’s pilot pool has decreased by 50pc as a result.
