Lufthansa will need to concede more to complete ITA deal

Lufthansa’s package of concessions offered to the European Commission for approval to buy a stake in ITA Airways may not be enough.

The EU regulator has not sought competitor feedback on the proposed deal, leading to a potential full-scale investigation.

Lufthansa has offered remedies such as abandoning slots and reducing frequencies, but wants to retain its profitable intercontinental network.

The European Commission has not commented on the concessions, and an in-depth probe is expected, which could take another 90 working days.
