

Keem Bay on Achill Island, County Mayo, has been include among 100 of the world’s “most incredible” beaches in the In the new Lonely Planet publication, Best Beaches.
The beach, known for its horseshoe bay of pale blonde sand, framed by the Croaghaun Cliffs and the Atlantic Ocean, offers calm waters for swimming and water sports.
The cirtation read: “The tucked away location means calm (if cool) waters, so swimming and snorkelling are popular. Summer kayaking trips are a fabulous way to drink in the wild and rural scene from the water, and those with keen eyes might spot rare plankton-eating basking sharks and pods of dolphins, which sometimes swim and feed around the swirling bay.”
The popularity of Keem Bay have led to issues with traffic, crowds, and littering, prompting the development of a visitor management and sustainable strategy for the bay.
