JetBlue Airways and Spirit Airlines are requesting an expedited appeal after a US District Court blocked JetBlue’s $3.8bn bid to acquire Spirit.

JetBlue’s CEO stated that they strongly disagree with the court’s ruling and have filed a motion to expedite the appeal. They also notified Spirit that certain conditions may not be met before the merger agreement’s outside date.

The airlines argue that the court’s decision disregards the benefits of the transaction to the majority of the flying public and are requesting an expedited hearing before the July closing date. JetBlue’s incoming CEO emphasized their commitment to delivering a superior customer experience and differentiating themselves from the competition.
