Congo Airways’ Q-400 aircraft, grounded for two years, has been declared irrecoverable but the airline is considering acquiring a third A320.

The airline was established in 2014 and made its first flight in 2015 using Airbus A320 aircraft.

Congo Airways initially operated domestic flights and planned to expand to regional and international markets.

In 2019 and 2020, the airline signed deals to acquire E175 and E190-E2 jets, and also executed a wet lease of two Embraer 190 aircraft from Kenya Airways.

One of the airline’s aircraft was sent to Dublin for painting in September 2015 and impounded on the request of a US based creditor.
