Heathrow Airport in London returned to profit in 2023, with underlying pre-tax profits of £38m, a significant improvement from the previous year’s losses of £684m.

The airport experienced a 28.6pc increase in passengers, reaching 79.2 million in 2023 and is forecasting a further rise to 81.4 million passengers in 2024.

Despite the positive financial results, Heathrow faces challenges including criticisms of the English aviation regulator’s restrictions on raising landing fees and the necessity to increase efficiency to remain profitable in the coming years.
