The Government has allocated over €800m for Shared Island projects, with the north east region being a major beneficiary.

Funding will be channelled through the Shared Island Fund to construct the Narrow Water Bridge connecting Cooley Peninsula in Louth to Mourne Mountains in Down, and to complete the Carlingford Greenway.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar highlighted the importance of the return of the power-sharing Executive in Stormont and emphasised the commitment to working together to enhance the island of Ireland.

The funding includes a significant investment in the Narrow Water Bridge project, with plans for a distinctive cable-stayed bridge and completion of Carlingford Greenway to boost connectivity and sustainable tourism in the Carlingford Lough region.
