
The long stalled South Kerry Greenway project has been allocated €8.4m in the latest €26m round of government capital funding for greenways.
The investment includes boosts for routes like Cockleshell to Spa (€300,000), Tralee to Fenit (€650,000), and Listowel to Limerick (€500,000). Funds have also been allocated to projects in early stages like Tralee to Listowel and North-South connectivity assessment.
South Kerry Greenway was planned at the same time as Waterford Greenway but ran into opposition from local land holders.
Routes selected for funding are as follows: Cockleshell Road to The Spa; Listowel to Limerick Improvements; Tralee to Fenit Improvements; Tralee to Listowel; Greenway support for the NRO; South Kerry Greenway (Stage 1) Caherciveen to Renard Point; South Kerry Greenway (Stages 2 & 3) Glenbeigh to Caherciveen; South Kerry to North Kerry Greenway Connectivity (assessment).
