Wynn’s Hotel in Dublin told the oral hearing into the airport metro project it “would be impossible” to take bookings during the two-week timeframe when a tunnel boring machine is expected to operate for the MetroLink construction underneath the hotel.

The hotel, recognized as an iconic and over 170-year-old structure, emphasized the importance of providing guests with a peaceful stay away from city center noise, highlighting potential financial impacts due to the construction noise during the MetroLink project.

Representatives of the hotel highlighted their prior experience with disruptive railway constructions, like the Luas Red Line extension, necessitating investments in noise mitigation measures such as triple-glazed windows.

The hotel emphasised the essential requirement for guests to have a restful sleep, critical for its success and reputation, and called for improved communication, robust timelines, and compensation considerations from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) to mitigate the impact on its commercial activities. Various experts and representatives at the MetroLink hearing provided insights on potential noise and vibration impacts, with TII acknowledging the complexity and warranting specific engagement regarding the hotel’s concerns.

Project manager Aidan Foley said that TII acknowledgeds it is a complex issue in terms of the impact on the hotel due to the number of rooms. He added that the hotel’s concerns warrant a “specific engagement”
