Boeing has been given until the end of May by the US FAA to address its systemic quality-control issues and come up with a comprehensive action plan.

The FAA emphasized the need for real and profound improvements from Boeing’s leadership, with accountability and mutually understood milestones.

While the FAA has not publicly threatened sanctions, it has mentioned that no production-rate increases will be approved until Boeing addresses its quality issues.

The US DOJ is investigating whether Boeing’s handling of a January mid-air door blowout violated a 2021 deferred prosecution agreement related to the B737 MAX crashes, potentially leading to criminal charges being reinstated if violations are found.
