Haiti’s main international airport is operational again after armed insurgents attempted to seize control, engaging in a gun battle with police and soldiers.

The attack took place at the Toussaint Louverture International Airport, which was closed at the time with no aircraft or passengers present. The airport is served by 13 airlines, including Air France, American and Jetblue.

This incident is part of a wider outbreak of violence in Haiti, which has also seen mass prison escapes and attacks on key government sites.
