Ethiopian Airlines has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Boeing for eight B777-9s with purchase rights for twelve additional B777X aircraft.

The carrier has not disclosed a delivery timeline for the order, and no comment was provided in response to inquiries.

This order, when finalised, will mark the first commitment for B777X aircraft from Africa, with the type expected to enter service in late 2025.

Ethiopian Airlines currently operates a diverse Boeing fleet, including B737s, B767s, B777s, and B787 Dreamliners, with unfilled orders for more aircraft.

In addition to its Boeing aircraft, Ethiopian Airlines also operates Airbus widebodies, including A350-900s, with orders for additional A350s.
