English street artist Dan Kitchener, known as ‘DANK,’ has completed a mural at 135 Ormeau Road, showcasing the Ormeau Bridge at night, reflecting his signature style of epic scale wall murals and collaborations with renowned artists.
The Lower Ormeau Traders Association commissioned Dan Kitchener for the mural through a grant from the “Supporting Vibrant Business Destinations” initiative led by Belfast City Council and funded by the Department for Communities Revitalisation program, aiming to enhance economic growth in the area by investing in infrastructure, marketing, and animation along Belfast’s main routes.
Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Áine Groogan highlighted the significance of the mural in spotlighting the Lower Ormeau area, supporting local retailers amid economic challenges, and contributing to Belfast’s creative and cultural landscape during the Belfast 2024 celebration.
Communities Minister Gordon Lyons emphasized the Department for Communities’ commitment to urban regeneration and public space development, collaborating with partners to enhance Belfast’s arterial routes like the Lower Ormeau, with the initiative benefiting various areas to boost economic competitiveness and community enrichment, culminating in the unveiling of Dan Kitchener’s mural.
