Private bus and coach operator Aircoach is cancelling its service between Galway and Dublin, which also serviced Athlone, effective from 8 April.

The 706/706X route has been running since July 2021, stopping at Galway Coach Station and all intermediary stops between Galway and Dublin Airport, with 10 departures each way, seven days a week.

Aircoach extended its route network in July 2021 but found it not to be commercially viable. When Aircoach ends the route next month, the only multi-stop service for Galway-Ballinasloe-Athlone-Dublin-Dublin Airport will be the Citylink Route 763.

Bus Éireann discontinued the 20/X20 route between Galway and Dublin in July 2021, and NTA granted a licence for the Aircoach 706/706X commercial service.

Aircoach says it still intends to explore customer-focused and commercially viable opportunities to facilitate an All-Ireland transport connection in the West of Ireland.

Aircoach has applied for an hourly service on its Greystones route to Dublin Airport, with plans for the enhanced service to be operational in time for summer.
