
Hurtigruten has been named the most sustainable brand in Norway’s travel and tourism sector in the 2024 Sustainable Brand Index, ranking among the top 100 brands in a survey of 282 brands from 25 industries based on evaluations by 13,000 Norwegian consumers conducted by SB Insight.
CEO Hedda Felin expressed pride in Hurtigruten’s recognition and emphasized the company’s commitment to safeguarding nature and culture along Norway’s coastline while fostering community partnerships and delivering tangible sustainability results in areas such as emission reduction, food waste management, and supporting local vendors.
Hurtigruten received the highest ESG ranking globally among cruise companies according to Morningstar Sustainalytics, placing it in the top 3pc of the international travel industry and highlighting investments in environmental upgrades for vessels as well as collaborative efforts towards zero-emission ships to reduce energy consumption and emissions.
The company’s Sea Zero project aims to introduce the world’s most energy-efficient cruise vessel by 2030, building on previous achievements such as the conversion of three ships to battery-hybrid power, resulting in a 25pc reduction in CO₂ emissions and an 80pc decrease in NOx emissions, further solidifying Hurtigruten’s sustainability leadership and pioneering initiatives like banning heavy fuel oil and single-use plastics.
