The Jacobite train service in the Scottish Highlands from Fort William to Mallaig, known for its association with Harry Potter, has been suspended due to health and safety concerns, potentially leading to a loss of up to £50m in value, as warned by its operator.

The service’s suspension has taken effect immediately as it awaits a decision on whether it can continue operating in its current form.

The impact of the suspension could result in significant financial losses for the operator of the Jacobite train service, which has gained fame for its picturesque journeys through the stunning highlands landscape.

The 100km round trip on the Jacobite train offers a journey past impressive extremes, starting near Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain, and visiting notable locations such as Arisaig, the most westerly mainland railway station, Loch Morar, Britain’s deepest freshwater loch, River Morar, Britain’s shortest river, and Loch Nevis, Europe’s deepest seawater loch.
