ITA Airways has reiterated its commitment to the proposed merger with Lufthansa, with the backing of the Italian government and the German airline.
Lufthansa aims to acquire a 41pc stake in ITA Airways for €325 million, facing regulatory challenges from the European Commission due to antitrust concerns.
There is a possibility of reconsidering the ownership structure to reduce Lufthansa’s share to 19.9pc and increase the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s share to 80.1pc to avoid notification requirements, although this may limit commercial and industrial synergies.
ITA Airways chairman Antonino Turicchi said there is no alternative plan and a commitment to moving forward with the proposed merger.
