The report of the Commissioner for Environmental Information, Ger Deering, highlighted two cases involving the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA).

The IAA refused to release a report on the fatal crash of the Rescue 116 helicopter in 2017 at Blacksod Bay and denied a request for reports on sightings of unidentified aerial objects in the west of Ireland without engaging with the commissioner’s staff.

Mr. Deering annulled both IAA decisions and directed the authority to address the information requests, as his office received 351 new appeals last year and had 373 cases on hand at the end of the year.
