Drini Abduramani, a man trying to board a flight home to be with his terminally ill father, was arrested for trying to climb onto an airplane on the tarmac at Dublin Airport.

Despite missing the boarding time after quickly going to the toilet, airline staff refused to let him on the flight, leading to him breaching the gate and running onto the ramp in an emotional state.

Abduramani pleaded guilty to trespassing in a manner likely to cause fear in others, but was spared a criminal record by Judge Treasa Kelly after making a €400 charity donation.

The incident occurred on April 21 last year, with Abduramani’s father passing away since. Defence barrister Tara McLoughlin described his actions as those of a desperate man trying to be by his father’s side.
