Sri Lankan conglomerate Supreme Global has expressed interest in acquiring a majority stake in SriLankan Airlines, with a partnership agreement established with MMAG Aviation Consortium Sdn Bhd to potentially establish and manage a regional cargo feeder network for the airline.

The Sri Lankan government is in the process of selling its state-owned airline through a Request for Qualifications (RfQ) process that ended on April 22, 2024, with at least six parties, including AirAsia Consulting Sdn. Bhd. and FitsAir, participating in the RfQ.

The agreement between MMAG and Supreme outlines that MMAG Aviation will provide freighter aircraft and operational support to set up a cargo feeder network for Sri Lankan Airlines following its acquisition by Supreme and its partner.

MMAG, known for operating Kargo Xpress, an active freight airline with B737-800(BCF)s, sees this agreement as a way to support Supreme in its pursuit of acquiring SriLankan Airlines while also expanding its presence in the aviation and logistics sectors.
