People are being advised not to climb Mount Errigal in Co Donegal after heavy rain severely damaged a new €630,000 pathway.
The 3km pathway, completed last October, saw a significant rise in visitors to the 751m peak, with hundreds of climbers each week.
Heavy rain displaced large stones on the pathway, necessitating repairs without a known timescale, with funding from the Sustainable Access & Restoration Project.
An Errigal Mountain Project spokesperson announced the pathway’s closure for safety reasons and expressed regret over the damage given the community’s significant investment.
