Scattery Island in County Clare will reopen to visitors on May 24, with access dependent on weather and sea conditions. Ferry rides take around 30 minutes each way, with varying durations on the island.

The OPW has restored the historic Street formerly home to Scattery pilots and the island’s post office, abandoned in 1978, allowing visitors to appreciate these vistas and the historic view back to Cappa and Kilrush.

The island offers a tranquil environment for exploring an array of interesting sites within walking distance, including the story of St. Senan’s battle against the serpent Cathagh and the founding of an early fifth-century monastic settlement.
