An investigation is ongoing after a Southwest Airlines flight plunged to 400 feet above the Pacific Ocean near a Hawaiian island on April 11.

Southwest Flight 2786, an inter-island flight, departed from Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, turned back due to bad weather, and landed safely back at the same airport with no reported injuries.

The aircraft descended at a high rate of over 4,000 feet per minute before the pilots executed a “roller coaster manoeuver” to avoid crashing into the water.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the incident and is conducting the investigation, without releasing further details.
