Andrew Lobbenberg, head of European transport equity research at Barclays, has estimated that pilots’ industrial action at Aer Lingus could result in up to a €170m decrease in earnings this year, a 75pc decline from the previous year’s operating profit of €225m.

Mr Lobbenberg says the potential impact of the strike on earnings may influence IAG’s approach to industrial relations issues amidst the acquisition process of Air Europa.
