An aggregation of 20 film locations in Ireland by betting and casino site Tonybet suggests the Cliffs of Moher are most popular followed by the Wicklow Mountains and Achill Island.
The research analysed Google search data and Instagram post counts to determine the popularity of these locations, highlighting Ireland’s status as a favourite filming destination.
Other popular filming locations include Powerscourt Estate in County Wicklow and Ashford Castle near Cong.
For the Google search volume data, four terms each relating to 20 famous filming locations in Ireland were input into Google Keyword Planner, such as: ‘Cliffs of Moher’, ‘Visit Cliffs of Moher’, ‘Cliffs of Moher Ireland’ and ‘Cliffs of Moher Harry Potter’. From this, the number of searches for each location’s terms were combined to determine the number of average global monthly searches. For the Instagram data, the post count under the location’s respective hashtag e.g. ‘#CliffsofMoher’ was recorded. Each location was scored out of a possible 100 points based on the number of Google searches and Instagram posts, with each of the two factors accounting for 50pc of the weighting.
