Dún Laoghaire launches 2024 summer into heritage programme

Jim O’Leary, Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, launched the Summer into Heritage programme 2024 at County Hall, Dún Laoghaire.

The DLR Summer of Heritage is a free programme of guided walks and tours organized by the Heritage Office of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council to explore the history and heritage of the county, running from 1 July to 1 September.

The programme includes guided tours to various historical sites such as Seapoint and James Joyce Martello Towers, the Oratory, Dalkey Castle, Marlay House, and Cabinteely House, offering insights into the hidden history of these locations.

The initiative aims to invite participants on a journey to discover the county’s treasures, fostering a sense of place and identity through exploring the rich history and heritage of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown. Guided tours this year include:

  • National Maritime Museum
  • Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre
  • James Joyce Tower
  • Quaker Burial Ground
  • Deansgrange Cemetery
  • Historic County Hall
  • The Oratory
  • Cabinteely House
  • All Saint’s Church
  • Marlay House
  • Fernhill Park & Gardens
