The European Commission is investigating Lufthansa’s receipt of €6bn from Germany as part of Covid-era rescue scheme

The aid was initially approved in 2020 but ruled that it was not in line with Covid Temporary Framework by General Court, due to appeals from Ryanair and other competitors.

The European Commission is to reassess eligibility for aid, the  need for an exit mechanism, market power at airports, structural commitments, and share price.

Lufthansa repaid the aid in full plus interest.
