A €10m project to showcase the source of the River Shannon at the Shannon Pot in west Cavan will commence, including a new discovery centre and treetop walk in the Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Geopark.

The development aims to drive tourism in the area and highlight the significance of the River Shannon’s origin, part of the cross-border geopark spanning Cavan and Fermanagh.

The project, supported by substantial funding from Fáilte Ireland and Cavan County Council, is expected to attract additional visitors and revenue worth €30m over the first ten years.

The initiative aims to offer sustainable, environmental, and economic benefits, promoting the geology, mythology, and stories of the Shannon while regionalising tourism to benefit more communities in the area.
