Craggaunowen will be transformed into a Viking village for a weekend event on August 3rd and 4th, featuring medieval games, battle recreations, and demonstrations of Norse arts, crafts, and trades.
Visitors will experience the Viking Age in Ireland during the 9th and 10th centuries, with highlights including battle recreations and opportunities to try on chain-mail suits, Viking helmets, shields, and other armor.
The recreated village at Craggaunowen will showcase historically accurate workshop tents where craftsmen demonstrate trading, leather working, basket weaving, and jewelry making skills.
Activities for all ages will be available, including Viking-themed games like Knubb and Hnefatafl, providing an educational and entertaining experience for families.
Pauline Lenihan, Site Manager at Craggaunowen said, “our open-air museum at Craggaunowen will bring the Viking story to life and we hope that people of all ages will come along to learn more about their day-to-day lives and the real people behind the legend of the ‘men from the north’. It promises to be an educational and entertaining weekend for all the family.”
