Nigerian Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo has warned of possible retaliation against British Airways if London denies Nigerian airlines, particularly Air Peace, traffic rights to London Heathrow.
The government has requested for Nigerian carriers to operate to Heathrow in alignment with the bilateral air services agreement between the two countries.
Keyamo mentioned that if London does not comply, Nigeria may consider reassigning British Airways to operate to less prominent Nigerian airports like Ilorin or Kano.
The government aims to support local carriers and ensure they have the capacity to reciprocate international agreements, citing high Nigerian airline failure rates linked to unbalanced agreements with foreign airlines.
