Owners and custodians of historic buildings can now apply for up to €50,000 for repair and restoration through the Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS).

Minister Malcolm Noonan announced changes for the 2025 scheme, including opening applications three months earlier than previous years to allow more time for project completion.

The grant cap has been increased from €15,000 to €50,000 for works on historic buildings in Carlow and Kilkenny, with 80pc of project costs covered by the grant.

The scheme aims to support the protection and conservation of built heritage, with previous funding provided to various projects in Carlow and Kilkenny for works such as roof repairs, window conservation, and masonry. Applications for the 2025 scheme close on September 27.
