Without fuss or fanfare, Olympic gold medalists Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy arrived in Dublin airport intending to take the bus to Cork.

Kieran Duggan, who lives in Mallow, gave the double sculls champions and another rower, Nathalie Long, who lives in Cobh and competed in the Women’s Four, a lift the whole journey back to Cork.

Cork County Council and Skibbereen Rowing Club (SRC) have delayed their homecoming celebration until after the world rowing championship.
