El Al Israel Airlines has signed an agreement with Boeing for the purchase of twenty B737 MAX aircraft with options for up to 11 more.

The firm order jets are scheduled to be delivered between 2028 and 2031, with the optioned aircraft potentially being delivered between 2030 and 2032.

El Al is considering the possibility of accelerating the MAX’s service entry to as early as 2027 through leases, once all optioned aircraft have been exercised.

The incoming MAX aircraft will replace El Al’s current fleet of B737-800s and B737-900ERs, as well as contribute to the growth of its narrowbody fleet. Financing for the purchase may involve loans and/or company resources, with an estimated cost of approximately $1.5bn.
