SAS is relaunching direct flights between Copenhagen and Seattle in May 2025, marking the first direct connection in 57 years and aiming to strengthen travel ties between Scandinavia and the Pacific Northwest, CEO Anko van der Werff told an event in Copenhagen to celebrate the airline’s joining Skyteam.

Under a wet lease agreement, Braathens Regional Airways (BRA) will operate several aircraft on behalf of SAS, enhancing capacity on key domestic routes in Sweden and feeding into the Copenhagen hub.

SkyTeam is the only airline alliance offering flights to both the northernmost and southernmost commercial airports globally, with SAS serving Svalbard Longyearbyen and Aerolineas Argentinas flying to Ushuaia.

Mr van der Werff said SAS plans to reintroduce a European Business Class with a separate cabin in summer 2025 and will be changing the names of its product offerings to Eco, Premium Eco, and Business long-haul, reflecting a focus on integration rather than size in their alliance strategy.

Anko van der Werff  said “We are excited to expand our North American network with Seattle. The route from Copenhagen will provide more travel options for our customers and strengthen the connection between Scandinavia and the Pacific Northwest, a region of growing economic importance with deep Scandinavian roots.”
