Mahbub Ali, former state minister for tourism and aviation in Bangladesh, was arrested by Dhaka detectives on September 15, 2024, linked to the shooting death of a hotel employee.
Prosecutors allege that Ali and other Awami League leaders opened fire in the Mirpur-10 district of Dhaka on July 18 amid civil unrest, resulting in the death of Siam Sardar, who was returning home from work.
Following Sardar’s death, his father filed a case against 114 individuals, including Ali, leading to the legal proceedings against those involved.
After a court hearing on September 16, Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mosharrof Hossain ordered Ali to be remanded in custody.
In an interview with Travel Extra at ITB Berlin Mr Ali said he planned to double visitor numbers to air Balngadesh by 2030.
