Taipei-based Starlux Airlines is seeking to join the oneworld alliance, with plans to submit its application before the end of 2025 as the airline expands its operations.
Cathay Pacific, a founding member of oneworld, has veto rights over new member applications, and it remains uncertain if they would approve STARLUX’s bid, particularly since they serve overlapping markets on the busy Hong Kong-Taipei route.
Starlux currently operates 29 routes to 27 destinations, focusing heavily on Asia-Pacific regions, and plans to expand further into North America, Europe, and Australia, increasing its fleet from 24 to 33 aircraft by the end of next year and to 53 by 2029.
The airline has recently launched new routes to Hong Kong and Phu Quoc and will begin a new Taichung-Okinawa route on December 2, enhancing its network in the Asia-Pacific region.
