The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) secured a €288m loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to fund a €627m sustainability program, which includes a solar farm construction at Dublin Airport.

A 9MW solar farm, scheduled to be operational this autumn, will provide nearly 12pc of the airport’s total electricity needs, with 11,000 out of 15,000 planned solar panels installed by Enerpower.

Once completed, the solar farm is expected to generate 7.46GWh annually, capable of powering approximately 1,600 homes, while supplying electricity for the airfield and contributing to terminal energy needs.

The project is part of Dublin Airport’s commitment to reduce direct emissions by 51pc by 2030 and achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050, with a total capital investment plan of €400m for sustainability initiatives.
